Rychliková, Monika ; Šťovíčková Jantulová, Magdaléna (advisor) ; Muhič Dizdarevič, Selma (referee)
This Master's thesis focuses on accountability, which is understood as a relation between an actor and an external forum. The actor is accountable to the forum which means the actor must explain and justify their actions. This thesis regards as actors civil society organizations that provide social services. The thesis explores what forms of accountability are employed in annual reports of civil society organisations that provide social services during Petr Nečas' government and using which discourses. The era of Petr Nečas' government is considered to be an era of neoliberal reforms. The method used in this thesis is Critical Discourse Analysis by Norman Fairclough. The thesis identifies bureaucratic discourse as the dominant and discourse of civil society as the minority. Being accountable through beraucratic discourse serves for legitimizing an organisation. Civil society discourse reflects and forms identities of organizations.

State Support of the Art: media discourse and public attitude
Zahradníčková, Zuzana ; Šafr, Jiří (advisor) ; Vojtíšková, Kateřina (referee)
The diploma thesis deals with the issue of public attitude towards the state cultural policy. It examines the changes of media discourse regarding the state support of the art after 1989. Articles from "Lidové noviny" and "Právo" from the years 1990-1993, 1995-1996, 2005 and 2013 have been analysed. The selection focuses on such periods in which the issue of the relation between the state and culture was discussed in a greater extent (the period of essential changes of cultural infrastructure within the framework of economic transformation, publishing of the so-called White Book as the first cultural policy draft, discussion regarding the manifestation for "1% for the Culture" and the petition action "Safe the Culture"). The results of critical discourse analysis of media texts are complemented and partly confronted with the quantitative analysis of public opinion polls.
Gender analysis of the file Fairy tales under the pillow
Špitálská, Andrea ; Knotková - Čapková, Blanka (advisor) ; Kalivodová, Eva (referee)
The diploma thesis analyzes the collection of fairy tales titled Pohádky pod polštář (Fairy Tales to Put Under the Pillow), written by psychologist Zuzana Pospíšilová and illustrated by Katarína Ilkovičová. The collection was published in the Czech Republic in 2012. The individual fairy tales are based on European folklore and adapted for the Czech cultural context. In terms of presentation, the collection is intended as a modern update of the popular children's fairy tale format. My analysis is rooted in feminist theory and feminist cultural and literary studies, as exemplified by authors such as Pam Morris, Simone de Beauvoir, Naomi Wolf and others. The subject of power is analyzed mainly in relation to the writings of Michel Foucault, Judith Butler and Pierre Bourdieu. From this perspective, I have attempted to make an informed criticism of the stereotypical and otherwise discriminatory images of gender present in the fairy tales. On the other hand, I have also recorded the instances in which gender normativity is subverted in the collection. In addition, the thesis attempts to employ an intersectional approach to analyzing the selected text, taking into account other categories significant to the dominant social order including not only gender, but also race/ethnicity, class, sexual identity,...

Polarization of the Czech Media Landscape after 2013: Discourse Analysis of New Media ProjectsPolarization of the Czech Media Landscape after 2013: Discourse Analysis of New Media Projects
Lebedová, Veronika ; Pudlák, Štěpán (advisor) ; Řehořová, Irena (referee)
The thesis deals with the polarization of Czech media landscape after 2013 as a discursive construct. Our topic is the emergence of new media projects, responding to the takeover of MAFRA by Andrej Babis. Three of these are being discussed: Echo24.cz, Reportér and Neovlivní.cz. The thesis aims to describe the discourse of the alternative media, its own representation in current situation. The subject is based on several concepts. First of them is the theory of social responsibility, which is a strong social value despite being quite questionable. Then, we discuss the trend of media ownership concentration and the development of Czech media after 1989, which has come to important changes, such as the change of the overall model of media ownership and the polarization of the media landscape itself. The first part of the thesis serves as a contextual background for the critical discourse analysis. The analysis verifies the hypothesis as follows: Alternative media is defined in opposition to the mainstream and uses the arguments based on the principles of the social responsibility theory to represent its own position, goals and interests. As a result, we found out, that the new projects construct an opposition us versus them as independence versus oligarchization. At the same time, the principles of...
The civil war in Libya
Varjan, Milan ; Kochan, Jan (advisor) ; Kočišíková, Viera (referee)
The thesis covers the topic of the armed rebellion in Libya that gradually spiraled into a full-blown civil war and thanks to a timely military intervention ultimately led to the collapse of Muammar Gaddafi's regime. Drawing on a set of CDA principles I identify main features of the political discourse set in the socially-political milieu of the civil war in Libya prior to the adoption of the UN Security Council Resolution No. 1973, which provided a mandate for a military intervention in Libya that was subsequently carried out by the USA, NATO and other members of the ad hoc coalition. Also, through a prism of realism I elaborate on the circumstances leading to said military intervention, its development (of the intervention) and finally its outcome.
